Lady Justice 4 16-9

A 45-year-old man is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in connection with the death of his ex-girlfriend, a Monrovia mother of two whose body was found in her car in June.

Jose Roberto Turner is charged with murdering Lajoya McCoy, who was found June 16 in her car in the 200 block of Cypress Avenue. The 31-year-old woman was reported missing after she missed some appointments, and detectives went to her home in the 800 block of West Olive Avenue and discovered evidence of foul play, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Monrovia Police called in sheriff’s homicide detectives, and McCoy’s car was found during a grid search of the area, officials said. The criminal complaint alleges that the woman was killed “on or about June 10.”

Authorities have not released information on how she died.

McCoy worked as an accountant with Los Angeles County and owned a clothing boutique. Friends said her two children, ages 7 and 9, were staying with their father when she went missing.

Turner was arrested Thursday in connection with the killing and has remained behind bars since then.
