Officers arriving at a vehicle crash scene in Azusa arrested a naked man who was in the midst of assaulting a 74-year-old woman, who suffered some moderate injuries, a police sergeant said Tuesday.
Riverside resident Reece Peter Holliday,33, had stolen a vehicle in the 700 block of East Arrow Highway, said Azusa police Sgt. Xavier Torres.
The victim of the auto theft and a witness located the suspect in the 200 block of South Cerritos Avenue, Torres said.
“They attempted to detain him, but he fought with them and attempted to flee,” Torres said. “In doing so, he entered an elderly woman’s vehicle (and) physically assaulted her, and attempted to pull her out of the vehicle.”
Officers arriving at the scene at 12:02 p.m. Monday were able to arrest him. Holliday was booked on suspicion of auto theft, attempted carjacking and elder abuse. He was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail at the Los Angeles County Jail, Torres said.
