An armed man who barricaded himself in a Norwalk home following a domestic dispute was found dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials said.

The standoff began about noon, after deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 12600 block of Paddison Avenue, according to Los Angeles County sheriff‘s officials.

Deputies were told by a woman that she had gotten into an argument with her husband, who assaulted her, sheriff’s Sgt. Ralph Gama told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

The man barricaded himself inside a bedroom, Gama said.

Surrounding residents were evacuated and a sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau Special Weapons Team was deployed, along with crisis negotiators, officials said.

The woman and the couple’s two young children were out of the home and safe, Gama said.

The man was found dead inside the home about 5 p.m., according to the sheriff’s department.
