A woman walking in a crosswalk who was struck by a car and carried 50 feet on its hood before she fell off as the driver steered around her and left the scene was in critical condition, but her vital signs have stabilized, a police lieutenant said.
The car, a white, 2003 four-door Mitsubishi Lancer, has a broken windshield. Its driver was observed stopping after the crash to remove its license plates, said Sgt. S. Bailey of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Traffic Division.
Witnesses were able to get a license plate number anyway, said Lt. Melody Heinline. It is 4ZCG222.
The hit-and-run crash happened at 9:47 p.m. Friday in a marked crosswalk in the 5500 block of North Figueroa Street in Highland Park, Bailey said.
The woman, in her late 30s or early 40s, underwent surgery at Huntington Memorial Hospital and was in the intensive care unit, Bailey said.
Witnesses described the driver as a Hispanic man in his 40s, about 5 feet tall, wearing a light blue tank top and blue jeans.
