Was it murder in the mountains or a natural death?

Those were the questions authorities were trying to answer Sunday after a hiker made a grim discovery of a body along a trail.

Los Angeles Sheriff‘s homicide detectives and the coroner were in the Angeles National Forest north of Glendora, where a hiker found the body Saturday.

The discovery was made just after 5 p.m. on the Prairie Fork Road hiking trail about 3 1/2 miles north of Heaton Flats and south of the Bridge to Nowhere, said Sgt. Vicki Gregory of the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station.

The hiker contacted his girlfriend who called the sheriff’s department, Gregory said.

“We have secured the area,” she said.
