A burglary suspect was shot and killed by a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy in the La Puente area early Friday, authorities said.

The suspect was shot by a deputy in the 800 block of Ashcomb Drive around 1:20 a.m., said sheriff’s Deputy Trina Schrader. The wounded man died at the scene. His name was not immediately released.

“Detectives have learned that the suspect entered a home that did not belong to him,” Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez said. “A resident of that home … informed deputies that there was an unknown male adult inside the house.

“Deputies made entry into the home and gave verbal commands to the suspect to comply and cooperate,” Navarro-Suarez said. “During this time, the suspect grabbed for a deputy’s firearm and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.”

No deputies were injured. A knife believed to have belonged to the suspect was recovered at the scene, Navarro-Suarez said.
