A 54-year-old man was shot to death in the Mar Vista area of Los Angeles over the weekend, and a person was taken into custody for questioning, authorities said Monday.

The victim was identified Orrin Michael Halper of Venice, according to Investigator Betsy Magdaleno of the coroner’s office.

The shooting was reported at 10:47 a.m. Saturday in the 3600 block of Purdue Avenue, said Los Angeles police Officer Liliana Preciado.

Arriving officers found Halper suffering from a gunshot wound, and firefighters pronounced him dead at the scene.

Officers took a person into custody for questioning. The person’s name was not immediately released. The investigation was continuing.
