A 61-year-old woman in a wheelchair was struck and killed by a motorcyclist in the Florence community of unincorporated Los Angeles County, the California Highway Patrol said Thursday.

The motorcyclist, a 21-year-old resident of Los Angeles riding a 2014 Yamaha, was going northbound on Compton Avenue, just north of 70th Street, when he struck the woman, who was within the crosswalk, according to the CHP.

CHP officers were dispatched to the scene at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday.

Paramedics rushed the South Gate resident to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, where she was pronounced dead at 5:08 p.m.

The motorcyclist, who suffered moderate injuries, was not arrested, according to the CHP.
