Two men in their 70s walked away with minor injuries after their small plane crash-landed in the Lake Hughes area, authorities said.

Firefighters were sent to the area of Maxwell and Lake Hughes roads called about 8 p.m. Thursday, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The 70-year-old pilot said in a 911 call that he and his 74-year-old male passenger had suffered minor injuries, said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Brian Dunn.

The Beechcraft BE36 was en route from Bakersfield to Fox Field in Lancaster when it went down in a field about 20 miles west of its destination, said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor.

The plane was found in a remote and mountainous area west of Lake Hughes, Dunn said. The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.
