Police are urging the driver of a car that struck and killed a 54-year-old pedestrian in Pomona to surrender, and for witnesses to come forward.

Charles Stewart died at the scene of the hit-and-run crash, which occurred around 11:50 p.m. Sunday in the area of Holt and Garey avenues. He was found in the roadway by responding officers, Pomona police Cpl. J.T. Garcia said.

The vehicle involved is believed to be a black 2003 to 2007 Saturn Ion sedan last seen heading south on Garey Avenue near Monterey Street. It should have moderate damage to the lower right bumper and right side windshield, police said.

Anyone with information about the accident was asked to contact police traffic investigators at (909) 620-2081. Anonymous tips can be supplied by calling Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
