A 53-year-old man was charged with murder Wednesday for the 1988 shooting death of a man in Pasadena.

Albert Ahmad Clark is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 23 in Pasadena on a single count of murder for the Feb. 27, 1988, killing of 39-year-old Leroy Galloway.

According to Pasadena police, Clark was initially suspected in the shooting of Galloway near Lake Avenue and Orange Grove Boulevard. Galloway was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses said they saw a suspect fleeing the area, and based in part on the descriptions they provided, investigators eventually arrested Clark, according to police.

But due to “limitations of forensic science at the time,” there wasn’t enough evidence to prosecute Clark, and he was released, police said.

Galloway’s relatives approached Pasadena police in 2013 and asked them to re-visit the case. Investigators were able to retrieve evidence that was analyzed and implicated Clark in the killing, police said.

Clark was arrested Monday in Los Angeles. He remains jailed in lieu of $2 million bail.

There was no immediate information provided on a possible motive for the crime.
