The California Highway Patrol on Sunday reported no traffic-related deaths on Los Angeles County highways during the first 60 hours of this Christmas season.

The reporting period began at 6 p.m. Thursday and will end at 11:59 p.m. Sunday night, CHP Sgt. Melissa Hammond said.

During that same time period last year, there was one traffic-related death on Los Angeles County highways, according to a CHP news statement.

Statewide, there were 14 traffic-related deaths so far in the 60-hour period, four fewer than last year’s total of 18.

In Los Angeles County during the 60-hour period, CHP officers arrested 150 motorists for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, 18 more than last year’s total. Statewide, there were 608 DUI arrests, compared with 565 last year.
