A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed in the Avalon Village area of Carson, authorities reported Saturday.

The shooting was reported at 8:29 p.m. in the 23400 block of South Avalon Boulevard, said Deputy Trina Schrader of the Los Angeles County Sheriff‘s Information Bureau.

The boy was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Schrader said.

Homicide detectives called to the scene learned the 16-year-old boy “had been struck by gunfire several times,” Schrader said. The shooting appeared to be gang-related.

A news videographer at the scene said the shooting occurred within a gated community.
