In what seems to be the case of a thief with real nerve and questionable need, officers Saturday hunted the person who stole a bass drum and other items from a Los Angeles Police Department band member’s vehicle.

The theft took place in the 3700 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, according to the LAPD.

The items belonged to a member of the LAPD’s Emerald Society Pipes and Drums group, which plays at officer funerals and charity events, police said.

Anyone with information about the theft that apparently took place early Friday morning was urged to call the LAPD’s Media Relations Section at (213) 486-5910.
