The Coroner’s Office Sunday identified the man who was shot dead, apparently by gang members, at a market in the Hyde Park community of Los Angeles on Saturday.
The shooting victim was identified as Andre Alexander Howard, 23, of Compton, according to coroner’s Investigator Anthony Lopez.
Officers were dispatched at 12:45 p.m. Saturday to a “shots fired” call in the area of Crenshaw Boulevard and 67th Street. They discovered Howard suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso, according to Officer Rosario Herrera of the LAPD’s Media Relations Section.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sources at the scene said Howard might have been en route to or coming from an area market just prior to the shooting and died on the floor of a beauty salon.
Herrera said the shooting is considered to be gang-related.
