Three cars parked in a carport located at an apartment building in Lakewood were burned in an apparent arson attack Saturday morning, a sheriff’s sergeant said.

The probable arson took place about 1 a.m. at the Lakewood Manor Apartments located at Hardwick Street and Hayter Avenue, said sheriff’s Sgt. Matt Taylor, watch commander at the Lakewood sheriff’s station.

“Our units responded to the scene and found one car fully engulfed and two others burned,” Taylor said. “County firefighters rolled out and put out the fire.”

A total of three cars were burned and are now stored as evidence, Taylor said. Sheriff’s arson investigators were called to the scene and an arson report was being prepared this morning, he added.

No suspect description was available, he said.

The motive for the attack was unknown.

Anyone with information on this arson was asked to call the Lakewood sheriff’s station at (562) 877-8374. All tips can be made anonymously.
