A jogger was intentionally run over from behind and killed Monday by a motorist in eastern Los Angeles County, and the driver was arrested for suspected murder by sheriff’s deputies.
A 1989 Toyota Camry had been going east on La Puente Road when it struck a man jogging east in the bike lane, from behind, said Lt. Steve Jauch of the Los Angeles County Sheriff‘s Department Homicide Bureau.

The car then carried the jogger several yards on the hood of the car until it went off the road at Citadel Drive, and smashed through the back yard wall of a home on Bernard Avenue, Jauch said.
Deputies were dispatched at approximately 5:50 a.m., in response to a 911 call from a homeowner in the 20200 block of Barnard Avenue
The jogger was pronounced dead at the scene, said Deputy Sara Rodriguez of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
The incident appears to have been intentional, though the victim and the male driver did not know each other, Lt. David Buckner said.
The driver was detained at Walnut Station and later arrested on suspicion of murder, Buckner said.
The suspect’s name was not immediately available.
Sheriff’s homicide bureau detectives asked anyone with any information regarding the death to call them at (323) 890-5500.
