
A domestic violence suspect led authorities on a chase Monday that went as far north as La Mirada, ending in Newport Beach with an hours-long standoff.
The chase began at 4:47 p.m. in Buena Park when its police department was contacted by its counterpart from Huntington Park which feared a domestic violence situation had developed.
It is believed that the man had a girlfriend and two children with him in the vehicle.
Police were concerned the driver may be armed.
Authorities chase the Hummer on streets and freeways.
On the surface streets, the driver was reckless, including the suspect once driving the wrong way. On freeways, the suspect drove carefully.
Much of the chase north from Los Angeles County was on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway.
The suspect stopped at Pacific Coast Highway and Jamboree Road in Newport Beach after being followed over a number of Orange County freeways.
The suspect resumed driving, stopping at Dover and 16th Street in Newport Beach, by Newport Harbor High School, according to KCAL9.
The driver stopped there and a standoff remained underway at 8:55 p.m.
