One man was killed and another was wounded Thursday afternoon in a possibly gang-related shooting in Long Beach, police said.

Officers were dispatched just after 3 p.m. to the area of Butler Avenue and Artesia Boulevard to investigate a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, said Long Beach police Sgt. Brad Johnson.

Upon arrival, they found the victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One had been struck in the upper body and the other in the lower body, the sergeant said.

Both were taken to a hospital, where one was pronounced dead and the other was being treated for what was believed to be a non-life-threatening injury, according to Johnson.

Westbound lanes of Artesia Boulevard were closed between Long Beach Boulevard and the Long Beach (710) Freeway as police investigated the shooting.
