Police on Friday sought the public’s help in identifying a motorist who drove onto a sidewalk and mowed down a 64-year-old woman while fleeing a collision with a school bus in South Los Angeles.

The unidentified suspect was northbound on Normandie Avenue in a dark-colored four-door Ford Explorer that rear-ended the unoccupied bus at 76th Street about 6:30 a.m. Thursday.

“The suspect placed the vehicle in reverse and drove around the school bus and onto the sidewalk, striking a pedestrian,” according to a Los Angeles Police Department statement.

The SUV continued traveling northbound without stopping and rendering aid to the woman, who died at a hospital, police said.

Her name was not immediately released.
