A pedestrian believed to be between 30 and 35 years old was fatally struck by at least one vehicle on the Harbor (110) Freeway in downtown Los Angeles Wednesday, prompting a temporary freeway closure, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The accident took place on the northbound 110 Freeway just south of the Santa Monica (10) Freeway about 3:30 a.m., said CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos.
“We had reports the man was walking in the lanes when he was struck by a vehicle,” Villalobos said. “We haven’t confirmed yet that he was actually walking in the lanes.”
Villalobos said the driver of the vehicle that struck the victim stopped at the scene. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending family notification.
The accident shut down all northbound lanes on the Harbor Freeway for a death investigation, and northbound traffic was being taken off at Adams Boulevard, Villalobos said. One lane was reopened to traffic around 5:30 a.m. The remaining lanes were reopened 15 minutes later, when a SigAlert issued at 3:51 a.m. was cancelled, the CHP reported.
