A man was wounded Friday afternoon in a shooting in south Los Angeles.
The victim, believed to be about 40 years old, was shot at 2:15 p.m. in the 5500 block of South Vermont Avenue. The male suspect fled the scene in a white Nissan Maxima sedan, according to Los Angeles police Officer Anthony Im.
The wounded man was taken to a hospital, where he was undergoing treatment, but his condition was not immediately available, police said.
Investigators did not have many leads and it wasn’t immediately clear if the shooting was gang-related, but it occurred in an area where gang activity is prevalent, police said.
Gunfire also was reported about 3:40 p.m. in the area of 68th and Hoover streets, but no victims were located, Im said.
A shirtless gunman, about 30 years old with a thin build and wearing black jeans, took off on foot after firing a handgun, Im said.
