A 26-year-old North Hills man was killed Friday when his car rear-ended a big rig that was stopped on the right shoulder of the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Van Nuys.

The crash occurred about 7 a.m. north of the Ventura (101) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene, the CHP reported.

The county coroner’s office identified him as Rogy Gianan.

Gianan was driving a 2006 Acura TSX when, “for an unknown reason,” the car hit the rear of the big rig, becoming wedged beneath the trailer portion of the truck, the CHP reported. The trucker was not injured.

Two northbound lanes of the San Diego Freeway were blocked while an investigation was conducted.
