Officers dispatched just after 7 p.m. Thursday on a report of a fight in progress at the restaurant at 2511 N. San Fernando Blvd. found 21-year-old Arturo Tovar of Burbank nearby, suffering from multiple non-life-threatening stab wounds, according to Burbank police Sgt. Claudio Losacco.
Burbank Fire Department paramedics took him to a trauma center, the sergeant said.
Officers searched the area, including a Quality Inn at 2255 N. Buena Vista St., for suspects, witnesses and evidence, Losacco said.
Later Thursday night, officers responded to a hospital emergency room where a man, identified as 18-year-old William DeLaCerda of Burbank, told staff he had been assaulted at the Jack in the Box.
He had blunt force injuries to his body, face and head, but as was the case with Tovar, none were life-threatening, according to Losacco, who said both men were uncooperative.
“This was not a random attack,” Losacco said. “The involved parties are from rival gangs and appear to have willingly engaged each other in this fight.”
Investigators arrested both men Friday on suspicion of fighting in public, with the felony allegation that the crime took place in furtherance of, in association with and for the benefit of a criminal street gang, Losacco said.
They were each being held in lieu of $40,000 bail and are due to appear in court on Tuesday, according to the sergeant.
Other people were involved in the fight, which remains under investigation, he said.
Anyone with information about the case was urged to call Burbank police Detective Henry Garay at (818) 238-3210. Anonymous tips can be supplied through Crime Stoppers by calling (800) 222-TIPS.
