A $50,000 reward was announced Tuesday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a hit-and-run motorist responsible for the death of an 81-year-old man in Glendale.
Martiros Arutyunyan was crossing Broadway at Belmont Street about 8 p.m. Saturday when he was struck by a late-model white sedan with a female motorist behind the wheel, according to Glendale Police Sgt. Robert William.
The Glendale senior died of head injuries at a hospital, William said.
The vehicle was last seen headed eastbound on Broadway.
Detectives released video surveillance footage in hopes of identifying the driver of the sedan, which sustained damage to a headlight and possible damage to the front bumper, hood and windshield.
“We are hopeful with the reward being offered that someone will come forward and provide information that will assist detectives with identifying the driver of this vehicle,” said Glendale police Chief Robert Castro. “Responsible driving behavior and defensive driving are actions that are vital to avoid a tragedy such as this one.”
Police asked anyone with information about the hit-and-run to call them at (818) 548-4911. Witnesses can remain anonymous if they wish.
