Police, along with a K-9 unit, were searching a South Los Angeles neighborhood Tuesday for a suspect accused of shooting two of his neighbors, one of them fatally.
The shooting in the area of Manchester and McKinley avenues was reported to police at 8:25 a.m., according to Officer Liliana Preciado of the LAPD’s Media Relations office.
The suspect was identified in broadcast reports as Juan Rodriguez, 49.
NBC4 reported that Rodriguez is accused of fatally shooting a man in his 20s on a sidewalk and wounding another man who tried to come to the aid of his mortally wounded neighbor.
Rodriguez and the shooting victims had allegedly been embroiled in an ongoing dispute, the nature of which was unclear, according to reports from the scene.
The surviving victim was said to be in stable condition.
Los Angeles police Detective Meghan Aguilar told Channel 4 that Rodriguez ran into a nearby business after the shooting, but fled that location and allegedly ditched the firearm, possibly a rifle.
He was believed to be holed up in the neighborhood, according to Aguilar.
