The decomposing bodies of a man and a woman were found inside a residence in Santa Clarita, and authorities worked Friday to determine how the two died.

The bodies were found in the 19000 block of Pleasantdale Street about 6:15 p.m. Thursday, according to sheriff’s Deputy Trina Schrader. The two were pronounced dead at the scene, she said.

Deputies went to the house to check on the welfare of the two people after someone called the Santa Clarita station to say the residents had not been seen for several weeks and that a strong odor was coming from the home, Schrader said.

When deputies entered the home, Schrader said, they discovered a dead man and woman inside. The bodies were in an advanced state of decomposition. An autopsy will be needed to determine the time and cause of death.

Anyone with information on these deaths was asked to call the sheriff’s homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500.
