Police Sunday said they have arrested a 54-year-old man they believe approached a homeless encampment in South Los Angeles, threw a flammable liquid on two people and lit them on fire causing serious injuries.
Officers patrolling the area of Florence Avenue and Figueroa Street about 4 p.m. Saturday spotted Phillip Darryl Cole on a bus bench and arrested him without incident, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
Cole was wanted on suspicion of committing several robberies and attempted murder.
Around 6:40 a.m. Thursday, Cole, a transient, allegedly approached a homeless encampment in an empty lot at 83rd Street and Vermont Avenue and threw a flammable liquid on two people, then lit them on fire causing serious injuries. The two victims were listed in stable condition.
He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and was being held in lieu of $1.27 million bail.
