Detectives want your help to find a man they described as a transient who is suspected of setting two people on fire at a South Los Angeles homeless encampment.

Phillip Darryl Cole is also suspected of several robberies of homeless victims, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Cole allegedly approached a homeless encampment in an empty lot at 83rd Street and Vermont Avenue about 6:40 a.m. Thursday “and threw a flammable liquid on two victims and lit them on fire, causing serious injuries,” according to a police statement.

No details about the robberies were released.

Cole is black, 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs about 260 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

“The suspect is transient and believed to be in the area where the crime occurred,” police said.

Anyone with information about Cole’s whereabouts was urged to call robbery detectives at the LAPD’s 77th Street Station at (323) 786-5420.
