A man and a woman who were spotted following a U.S. Postal Service carrier in Burbank were arrested when officers found drugs, stolen mail and credit cards and personal checks in other people’s names in their vehicle, police said Wednesday.

The suspects — identified as Rane Melkom, 30, of Burbank, and Sharis Hambarchian, 29, of Glendale — were arrested Tuesday afternoon when police responded to the 1700 block of Grismer Avenue to investigate a report from the Postal Service that one of its mail carriers was being followed by a suspicious vehicle, according to Burbank police Sgt. Claudio Losacco and sheriff’s online inmate records.

In addition to the stolen mail and credit cards and checks in other people’s names, the two were also in possession of mailbox keys, methamphetamine, heroin and narcotics paraphernalia, police allege.

Melkom and Hambarchian were booked on a variety of drug and theft- related charges and were each being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, according to the sheriff’s department.
