A year-old girl’s life was saved when police officers applied CPR as the infant was choking on some food in the parking lot of a restaurant in Irwindale, a police sergeant said Wednesday.
Police were dispatched at 4:49 p.m. Tuesday on a call of a baby not breathing at Farmer Boys Restaurant, 6600 N. Irwindale Ave., said Irwindale Police Sgt. George Zendejas. On arrival an officer located the child and her parents in the restaurant’s parking lot, he said.
“The police officer determined the baby was turning blue and not breathing,” he said. “The police officer took the baby from the father and began to administer CPR on the baby.”
Other officers arriving on the scene assisted in the effort and the baby began breathing. Los Angeles County fire Department paramedics rushed the girl to an area hospital as a precaution, he said.
“After speaking to the parents, it appeared as if the child was choking on a food item,” Zendejas said.
