A vehicle crashed into a power pole in Van Nuys Friday and knocked out electricity to about 1,700 customers in the area for several hours, authorities said.
The crash was reported about 4 a.m. at Van Nuys and Burbank boulevards, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Crews were sent to handle the problem, and service was restored by about 10:30 a.m., the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power reported.
About 6:15 a.m., a vehicle sheared a hydrant at Kester Avenue and Sherman Way in the Reseda area, but service was not interrupted, the utility reported.
Firefighters shut off the flow of water within a few minutes.
