A 59-year-old man is facing 11 years in state prison for strangling his female roommate and then stashing her body in a closet for several days while trying to figure out what to do with the corpse.

Mario Rene Villalobos pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter in the May 1, 2015, death of Cassandra Olsen-Silagyi, 48, in an apartment they briefly shared in the Panorama City area. the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.

Villalobos is scheduled to be sentenced June 30 at the San Fernando courthouse.

Police discovered the victim’s body in a closet May 4 when they went to the apartment building in the 8700 block of Sepulveda Boulevard in North Hills in response to a tip that Villalobos might be trying to dispose of a body. She had been dead for several days at that point.

The two had been roommates for nearly a month, and Villalobos had been trying to evict the woman, according to Deputy District Attorney Ani Bailey.
