A Los Angeles police officer was injured Friday while running after a suspect who escaped from custody while in handcuffs, prompting a dragnet through a western San Fernando Valley neighborhood.
It happened about 9 a.m. near Vanowen Street and De Soto Avenue, said Los Angeles police Officer Liliana Preciado. The officer was treated at a hospital for a head injury.
Police were seeking Broomi Shawn Mansour, 26, who was barefoot and in handcuffs when last seen.
He is described as 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.
A modified Tactical Alert was in effect for a time in the Topanga Station’s jurisdiction while a search was conducted, and police set up a perimeter for about three hours, but were unable to find the man.
It wasn’t immediately clear why Mansour was originally stopped.
