A 59-year-old taxi driver from Anaheim who pleaded guilty to raping a customer has been sentenced to 18 months behind bars.
Samy Gayed Hakim accepted a plea deal from Orange County Superior Court Judge Robert Fitzgerald, said Deputy District Attorney Lexie Elliott. Hakim has been jailed for about a year awaiting trial and has about another six months to serve behind bars, according to Elliott.
Hakim has the threat of an eight-year prison sentence hanging over him if he violates the terms of his formal probation over the next three years, Elliott said. He can no longer work as a taxi driver, the prosecutor said.
Hakim picked up a 36-year-old woman early Nov. 18, 2014, at a Huntington Beach bar to take her home.
The victim was raped in the vehicle outside her apartment complex while she was under the influence of alcohol, Roxi Fyad of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office said at the time.
Hakim pleaded guilty to rape. Charges of rape by use of drugs, sexual penetration by using an intoxicating substance on a victim and sexual penetration by a foreign object were dismissed, according to court records.
