The FBI is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a 27-year-old man with ties to Los Angeles and Orange counties who is suspected of killing his wife at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
The body of Iris Armstrong, a human resources specialist assigned to the 189th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade, was discovered July 6 in the Nijmegen neighborhood home on Fort Bragg she shared with Jason Earl Armstrong Jr., according to the FBI.
The FBI said Armstrong allegedly killed his wife on July 1. A federal arrest warrant was issued in the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of North Carolina on July 8.
Armstrong, who joined the Army in October 2012, was found stabbed and beaten, according to her death certificate, the Fayetteville Observer reported. The state medical examiner ruled her death was caused by sharp and blunt force injuries.
The FBI said Armstrong was seen on a surveillance video using his wife’s debit card shortly after the murder.
“We believe he has relations or associates in Southern California,” said Laura Eimiller, public affairs specialist with the FBI’s Los Angeles office.
The agency said he also has ties to South Carolina, Atlanta, New Orleans, Amarillo, Texas and Phoenix, Arizona. He is described as a 6-foot tall black man weighing between 150 to 160 pounds.
Members of the public were warned not to approach the suspect.
The FBI’s Charlotte office asked anyone with any information regarding Armstrong’s whereabouts to call them at (704) 672-6100.
