A Los Angeles police car was hit by gunfire in Eagle Rock Sunday, prompting a stretch of the Ventura (134) Freeway to be closed between Glendale and Pasadena.
The LAPD SUV was shot in its rear left-side passenger door, the bullet hit just a few dozen inches from the police officer sitting in the front seat, police said.
Officers were called to a park just below the landmark Eagle Rock geologic formation, at the 134’s Figueroa Street interchange, on a report of gunfire heard at 3:45 a.m.
At about 4:10 a.m., officers heard gunfire and a patrol officer in an LAPD SUV heard a “thump.’ They pulled over and saw damage from a gunshot, according to Officer Norma Eisenman of the LAPD’s Media Relation Section.
The officers radioed in a “help’ call. LAPD officers and sheriff’s deputies responded to the call, and a perimeter was established, Eisenman said.
No one was injured, according to a watch commander at the LAPD’s Northeast station.
The eastbound 134 freeway was closed at Harvey Drive at 4:45 a.m., westbound lanes were closed at Colorado Boulevard at 5:57 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada.
The westbound lanes were later opened at 7:55 a.m. and the eastbound lanes were opened a little before 11 a.m., Posada said.
