Police Sunday said a person has been detained for questioning in connection with a fiery two-vehicle crash in Koreatown, where a motorist allegedly ran a red light and caused the death of two men.
A 2014 Audi A4 going westbound on Third Street failed to stop for the red light and hit a Nissan Murano going northbound on Wilton Place, according to Officer Jenny Houser of the LAPD’s Media Relations Section.
The impact caused the Audi to leave the roadway and strike a pole, which caused its gas tank to catch fire, killing two 25-year-old male passengers inside the car, Houser said. They died at the scene.
Two other people were rushed to an area hospital and their conditions were not immediately known, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Houser did not release any further details about the person being questioned.
Police were notified of the crash at West Third Street and Wilton Place at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, according to an officer at the LAPD’s West Traffic Division.
Anyone who witnessed the crash was asked to call the LAPD’s West Traffic Division at (213) 473-0222.
