A knife-wielding man was shot Monday by a sheriff’s deputy after allegedly attacking a woman upon their arrival at the Chatsworth courthouse.

Paramedics were sent about 12:05 p.m. to 9425 Penfield Ave. and transported the man and the woman — who were not immediately identified — for hospital treatment. NBC4 reported that neither appeared to have life- threatening injuries.

No deputies were hurt.

Witnesses told reporters that the suspect and victim arrived at the courthouse together in a black Audi sedan driven by the woman, who asked an attendant at a parking kiosk to call for help.

The woman — who appeared to be injured — then got out of the vehicle and ran toward the courthouse door, with the man in pursuit, according to an attorney who had business at the courthouse. Witnesses said that when arriving deputies ordered the suspect to the drop the knife, he failed to comply and was shot.

The courthouse was closed for the rest of Monday and was expected to reopen for business on Tuesday, officials said.
