Authorities Thursday identified a young man who was fatally shot in East Los Angeles, and appealed for public help in solving the crime.

Cesar Lemus, 22, was gunned down about 7:30 p.m. Monday. He was walking southbound on Gerhart Avenue at Repetto Street with two unidentified men when a small gray sedan drove past, and someone inside opened fire, the sheriff’s department reported.

Lemus staggered to the 500 block of Williamson Avenue, where he collapsed. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead from a single gunshot wound to the upper body.

Anyone with information about the crime was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500, or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
