Police Monday sought witnesses to a motorcycle crash in West Covina that took the life of a 67-year-old local man.

Lawrence Dean Haskell was riding a three-wheeled motorcycle about 12:50 p.m. Sunday, heading south on Azusa Avenue, when the bike collided with a Mercedes-Benz that had turned left from northbound Azusa to westbound Fairgrove Avenue, according to West Covina police Officer Rudy Lopez.

Haskell was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Lopez said.

The driver of the car remained at the scene.

The intersection is controlled by a traffic lights, including a left- turn light for northbound Azusa Avenue, and investigators are “trying to determine the light phase at the time of the accident,” Lopez said.

The crash shut down southbound Azusa Avenue at Autumn Drive and eastbound Fairgrove Avenue at Nelson Street.

The roads were reopened about 5 p.m., police said.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash was urged to call West Covina police at (626) 939-8589.
