Authorities ruled out foul play after a man was killed Saturday falling from the upper Departure Level roadway at Los Angeles International Airport to the structure’s Arrival Level main roadway below.

Vehicle traffic was congested after the incident near American Airlines Terminal 4, but authorities said flight operations were not disrupted.

While officials ruled out foul play, they did not indicate if the death was an accident or a possible suicide.

“At approximately 9:35 a.m. Los Angeles Airport Police responded to welfare check of an unknown male in the roadway at 400 World Way and West Way,” police spokeswoman Alicia Hernandez said.

The Los Angeles Fire Department determined the unidentified man was dead at the scene, she said.

“At this point, the preliminary investigation is ruling out foul play,” Hernandez said.
