A road rage incident Wednesday on the Corona Del Mar (73) Freeway in the Costa Mesa area may have touched off a shooting, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Details were sketchy, but the CHP was called about 2:35 p.m. about shots fired, according to Officer Agustin Latosquin.

“The victim followed the suspect off the freeway and law enforcement was called and dispatched to the area and we contacted both parties and that’s all we know at this point,” Latosquin said.

It was unclear if any gunfire happened, Latosquin said.

The conflict was between drivers of two pickup trucks, he said.

The incident appears to have started near the 73 and the San Diego (405) Freeway, said Officer Florentino Olivera. The drivers appear to have exited at or near Campus Drive, Olivera said.
