West Covina City Councilman Michael Spence pleaded guilty Wednesday to a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of methamphetamine in connection with a crash in June in nearby Covina.
Spence, 50, was ordered to attend a three-month substance abuse program, along with 26 Narcotics Anonymous or Methamphetamine Anonymous sessions and a one-day Mothers Against Drunk Driving course, according to Sarah Ardalani of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
He was also ordered to serve three years on probation.
Spence was driving under the influence when his vehicle struck a pole near Azusa Avenue and Cypress Street on June 12, according to prosecutors.
“The test results came back positive for methamphetamine,” Covina police Sgt. Gregg Peterson said.
