A drunken hiker was rescued while hiking Echo Mountain in the Angeles National Forest, authorities said Thursday.

The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team received a call around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday about the man, who had last been seen on the Sam Merill trail, just south of Echo Mountain, according to the sheriff’s Altadena Station.

Rescuers hiked a mile from Mt. Lowe Fire Road and found the hiker, a 52- year-old Glendale man. He appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and was not able to sit up on his own, authorities said.

Around midnight, members of the rescue party carried the man on a litter off the mountain to a waiting ambulance.

The hiker was extremely intoxicated and transported for treatment, authorities said. All rescue crews left the mountain at 12:45am.
