A man discovered on fire in the Hollywood Hills may have committed suicide, and the shots heard prior to his discovery by police were ammunition igniting while in his possession, police said Saturday.
Officers started receiving calls at 11 p.m. Friday about the deceased man at Outpost Drive and Outpost Circle, according to Sgt. Chuck Slater of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood Division.
Officers dispatched on a “shots fired” call found a man engulfed in flame. Firefighters arriving at the scene put the flames out and pronounced the man dead at the scene, said Officer Jenny Houser of the LAPD’s Media Relations Section.
“The shots that were heard were actually ammunition going off on the deceased,” said Houser, adding that a gun was recovered at the scene.
She said that the evidence at the scene was “consistent with suicide,” but that has yet to be “fully determined.”
