A Rancho Palos Verdes killer was sentenced Monday to six years in prison for the death of two nursing students in a crash while driving under the influence of heroin.

David Scott Pedersen, 30, pleaded no contest Oct. 3 to two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

On Jan. 6, 2015, Pedersen was driving south on Pacific Coast Highway when his Honda Accord veered into the northbound lanes and collided into a Toyota Corolla heading north, killing Joseph Labori-Romero, 19, and 20-year-old Vanessa Carrisoza-Diaz.

A police officer who questioned Pedersen in a hospital emergency room testified that Pedersen was unaware of the collision, despite two broken legs and other injuries, the Daily Breeze reported.

Labori-Romero and Carrisoza-Diaz studied nursing together at Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson.
