Gruesome details emerged Sunday about a crash that saw a motorcycle slam into the side of an SUV and kill the man and woman in the front seat as the doomed couple’s two children watched in the backseat.

The force of the crash threw the motorcylist into the SUV and he was also killed in the crash at 2:44 p.m. Saturday at Alessandro Boulevard and Gem Lane in the Mission Grove area just outside Riverside.

The two surviving children suffered minor injuries and were hospitalized, the CHP said.

The dead adults in the SUV were the children’s parents, according to a media report.

First-arriving fire crews reported that two vehicles had collided and one had rolled over, according to April Newman with the Riverside County Fire Department.

“There is a total of five victims with significant entrapment,” Newman said.

According to the CHP, the SUV was heading west on Alessandro Boulevard as it approached Gem Lane, while the motorcycle was driving east on Alessandro Boulevard.

When the SUV turned left onto Gem Lane, the motorcycle struck the passenger’s side of the SUV at a high rate of speed and the rider was thrown through the SUV’s window and into the cabin, the CHP said.

Both the SUV’s front passenger and the motorcycle rider were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV suffered major injuries and later died at a hospital, according to the CHP.

The identities of the victims were not immediately released.
