Black-clad environmental activists outraged at President Trump caused an estimated $20,000 in damage to the Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes by carving a somewhat confusing message about Tiger Woods into the grass near the fifth hole, sheriff’s officials said Monday.
The group that calls itself an “anonymous environmental activist collective” sent the Washington Post a video Sunday showing four people in dark clothes scaling a fence and using gardening tools to carve six-foot-tall letters in the grass reading: “NO MORE TIGERS. NO MORE WOODS.”
There was no immediate explanation for how golf legend Tiger Woods is connected to the group’s concern over Trump Administration environmental policies.
The group also sent a statement to the newspaper explaining the vandalism was a response to the Trump administration’s “blatant disregard for the environment.”
According to a statement released Monday afternoon by the sheriff’s Lomita Station, deputies received a phone call about 8:45 a.m. Sunday from a course employee “stating someone dug into the grass at 1 Trump National Drive.”
“Moments later, the employee called back and canceled the call for unknown reasons,” the statement said. “At approximately 8:05 a.m. (today), deputy personnel responded to the location for a `vandalism’ report call. The amount of damage to the property was estimated at approximately $20,000.”
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the Lomita Station at (310) 539-1661, or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
