Long Beach lifeguards rescued three people from a fishing boat that crashed into the Long Beach breakwater amid Tuesday morning’s dense fog, but no one was hurt.

“Shortly before 5 a.m., Long Beach Lifeguard rescue boats responded to a distress call for service at the Long Beach breakwater,” Brian Fisk of the Long Beach Fire Department said.

“An 18-foot fishing vessel with three passengers aboard collided with the wall as a result of heavy fog and low visibility,” Fisk said.

Lifeguards on one of the boats rescued the people, who were “clinging to the breakwall,” Fisk said. “The other rescue boat implemented emergency de- watering operations for the vessel’s hull, (which) had sustained damage and was taking on water.”

The damaged boat was then towed to the South Shore Launch Ramp.
